Join a Multi-Purpose Service (MPS) providing primary health care, emergency and inpatient care, residential aged care, and allied health services. You’ll be part of a small, dedicated team of clinicians, supported by experienced medical, nursing, and laboratory staff, complemented by visiting specialists.

 

The Role:

SustainHealth is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Pathology Laboratory Assistant. This position plays an essential role in ensuring accurate and timely diagnostic services for hospital, residential aged care, and GP clinic patients, while maintaining compliance with NIHRACS policies, quality assurance, and accreditation standards.

This is a full-time role (1.0 FTE), Monday to Friday, with flexible hours depending on workload and operational needs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and prepare pathology specimens from patients in the outpatient collection room.
  • Receive and process specimens in the pre-analytical stage, prioritising urgent requests.
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of laboratory analysers and quality control processes.
  • Accurately enter data, file, and scan patient records and laboratory documentation.
  • Support the Medical Scientist in daily operations, stock management, and equipment maintenance.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Relevant pathology qualifications or willingness to complete qualification – Certificate III in Pathology Collection and Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques
  • Experience in specimen collection, laboratory support, and quality management systems
  • Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment with strong communication and organisational skills
  • Competent computer and laboratory information system skills
  • Must meet vaccination and employment screening requirements
