The Indian Ocean Territories Administration (IOTA) is currently seeking a motivated, professional and suitably qualified individual to join our team as a Senior Registered Nurse Level 1, with early
childhood development focus, within the Indian Ocean Territories Health Service (IOTHS) based on Christmas Island.
The IOTHS delivers a primary and acute health care service in two of Australia’s most remote and most spectacular settings – Christmas Island (CI) and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands (CKI). The IOTHS
includes a 24-hour eight bed hospital and primary care facility on CI and clinics on Home and West Islands in the CKI. The IOTHS is committed to “Working with our communities to keep us healthy for
the whole of our lives”.

About the Role
The key responsibilities of the Child Health Nurse (SRN1) position is to:
- Deliver direct, high quality and comprehensive nursing care and individual case management;
- Manage complex nursing cases, including the management of emergency presentations;
- Apply advanced clinical nursing, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation, to deliver a high standard of consumer / person-centred care within a child and family health framework;
- Be actively involved in design, implementation and management of health promotion activities and provide health education and early intervention support;
- To act as a professional role model, resource and support for colleagues.
About You
To be considered, applicants must possess:
- A current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA);
- Recent demonstrable child health nursing experience in a rural and remote setting;
- A current ‘C’ class Driving Licence;
- A valid Working with Children Check;
- Valid Australian work-rights;
- A Post Graduate qualification (or higher) in Child and Adolescent Health Nursing and/or Midwifery (highly desirable); and
- Ability to communicate in community languages, such as Chinese or Malay (desirable).
What’s in it for you?
In addition to living amongst the tropical backdrop of Christmas Island, the successful applicant will receive:
- Base salary of $110,422* per annum plus shift penalties; plus
- District allowance, starting from $472.37 per fortnight, plus
- Generous leave entitlements, including 27 days of annual leave, plus
- Annual return airfares assistance for you and eligible dependants to Perth.
If relocating to the Indian Ocean territories, you can expect relocation assistance, including uplift, and storage of personal effects, plus heavily subsidised housing and relocation of your motor vehicle, if one isn’t provided for you.
*Base salary of up to $121,729 at the commencement of the Indian Ocean Territories (Registered Nurses) Enterprise Agreement 2026.
