We are seeking a Cancer Program Nurse to support the Cancer Program in Maningrida and surrounding homelands/outstations, through the Manayingkarirra Primary Health Care Centre. This is a unique position funded by NACCHO.
The Cancer Program Nurse will work collaboratively with individuals and families currently and historically impacted by a cancer diagnosis both in the local systems and when in Darwin attending appointments and treatment. They will endeavour to increase the uptake in cancer screening by Maningrida community residents through focus groups, resource development and outreach activities. This unique position will open the on the ground conversation with younger cohorts hoping to encourage early screening and detection. We hope to improve the uptake in cancer treatments and completion of treatments for those with a current diagnosis.
The position will be Darwin based, with a fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) schedule to Maningrida. Accommodation in Maningrida and flights between Darwin and Maningrida will be subsidised. The FIFO schedule will be 2-3 weeks per month in Maningrida, while other working schedules may need to be negotiated with additional time in community for certain events and if increased client contact is required. The contract will be for a period of 12 months with likelihood of renewal for an additional 12 months subject to funding.

- Work in the Cancer Program and in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality cancer screening, treatment, and prevention services.
- Provide a culturally safe, competent and comprehensive care
- Develop and maintain a strong referral pathway

Essential Requirements
The role will see you working in a remote Aboriginal Community. All applicants must have an understanding of, and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control, self-determination, and the issues faced by Aboriginal people living in remote settings.

- Current AHPRA Registration and Practicing Certificate as a Registered Nurse
- Current Advanced Life Support & Basic Life Support Certificates
- Medicines Management module (within the last 12 months)
- About Giving Vaccines (or equivalent)
- Min 5 years broad nursing experience post registration
- Experience working in a culturally diverse setting, ideally with experience working in a remote context
- Proven high level of clinical assessment and problem-solving skills, interpersonal communication and conflict resolution
- Knowledge and commitment to the principles of primary health care and understanding of how the social determinants effect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with staff and members of the general public and clients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Manual Driver’s License
- Satisfactory Criminal History Check
- Current NT Working with Children Clearance OCHRE card or the ability to obtain one
