About the position

A rare opportunity is available for an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse manager to join the senior leadership team of a leading private hospital located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.  If you have strong operational management skills, excellent communication abilities, and a background in acute medical/surgical environments, this dynamic role is for you! Provide after-hours leadership across the hospital, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care and smooth operational coordination across multiple specialties.

 

About the Role:

As the After-Hours Manager, you will work closely with the Hospital Coordinator and receive handovers from the Deputy Director of Nursing prior to each shift. This role oversees hospital operations after hours across a broad range of specialties including:

  • Elective surgeries
  • Intensive Care Unit
  • Paediatrics
  • Maternity and emergency caesarean services
  • Special Care Nursery

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide after-hours leadership across the hospital
  • Coordinate safe staffing levels and skill mix based on patient acuity
  • Support Nurse Unit Managers and department leaders
  • Oversee patient admissions and hospital flow
  • Ensure patient and staff safety
  • Manage competing priorities and operational demands effectively
  • Promote best practice standards and quality patient care
  • Liaise effectively with public and private healthcare stakeholders

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Previous leadership experience within acute care settings
  • Background in ICU, senior nursing, NUM, or Med/Surg environments highly regarded
  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of private hospital operations and funding models
  • High level of computer literacy including patient management systems
  • Current ALS certification (highly regarded)
