Remote Area Nurses & Midwives – Ngukurr, Minyerri & Wugularr

Full time
Katherine, NT

About the position

Three Communities – Which One Is Calling You?

About Us

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (Sunrise) is an Aboriginal community-controlled, not-for-profit health service providing primary healthcare to communities across the Big Rivers region of the Northern Territory.

At Sunrise, our work is guided by respect, cultural safety and strong relationships with community. We listen, learn and work alongside the people we serve to improve health and wellbeing in ways that are meaningful, responsive and community-led.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking Remote Area Nurses (RANs) and Midwives to join our teams in Ngukurr, Minyerri and Wugularr (Beswick), with permanent, casual and flexible employment arrangements available.

Remote nursing with Sunrise is more than a job. It is an opportunity to work to the full scope of your practice, develop genuine relationships with community and experience a part of Australia that few people have the opportunity to call home.

Each of our communities offers something different – so the question might just be, which community is right for you?

Ngukurr – New Accommodation & Remote Community Life

Ngukurr offers the opportunity to experience life in one of the larger remote communities serviced by Sunrise while becoming part of an established clinical team.

Our team has access to brand-new staff accommodation located within a secure residential compound, providing a comfortable home base while living and working remotely.

The community also has a swimming pool, perfect for cooling off after a Territory day and connecting with community life.

If you’re looking for a genuine remote health experience with new accommodation, strong community connections and the opportunity to make an impact, Ngukurr could be the place for you.

Minyerri – A Close-Knit Community on Country

Minyerri offers a different kind of remote experience – a smaller, close-knit community surrounded by beautiful Territory country.

For someone who enjoys the outdoors and wants to immerse themselves in remote community life, Minyerri provides the opportunity to experience life on Country, outdoor recreation and the unique landscapes of the Big Rivers region.

Working in a smaller community also provides an incredible opportunity to build genuine relationships and see the impact of strong, consistent primary healthcare.

If you’re looking for a smaller community, connection to Country and a truly remote experience, Minyerri might be your perfect fit.

Wugularr (Beswick) – Waterfalls, Art & Community Connection

Located approximately 110 kilometres from Katherine, Wugularr offers an excellent balance between the remote health experience and relatively easy access back to Katherine.

When you’re not at work, explore the beautiful surrounding country with walks, waterfalls and swimming spots, connect with others through the local social club, or experience the community’s strong creative culture through the Wugularr Art Centre.

With its combination of art, culture, Country and community life, Wugularr offers plenty to experience beyond the clinic.

If you’re looking for remote nursing while remaining within reach of Katherine, with waterfalls, art and an active community environment on your doorstep, Wugularr is an exciting option.

Your Role

As a Remote Area Nurse or Midwife with Sunrise, you will provide comprehensive, culturally safe primary healthcare while working collaboratively with community and a multidisciplinary clinical team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering comprehensive primary healthcare, including acute presentations, chronic disease management and preventative health, with maternity and women’s health services where applicable.
  • Working collaboratively with Aboriginal Health Practitioners, GPs, allied health professionals and community members to provide culturally safe and responsive care.
  • Supporting health education, community engagement and locally driven health initiatives.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional and regulatory standards.
  • Participating in an on-call emergency response roster, supported by experienced clinical and operational teams.

About You

You will bring:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife, Registered Nurse/Midwife or Child Health Nurse.
  • A minimum of two years’ post-registration clinical experience.
  • Experience in remote health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, child health, primary healthcare or midwifery. Experience across multiple areas is highly regarded.
  • The ability to work confidently and autonomously while recognising when to seek clinical support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a culturally safe and respectful approach to care.
  • A commitment to ongoing learning, cultural safety and professional development.
  • Flexibility and resilience to thrive in a remote healthcare environment.
  • A current unrestricted manual driver’s licence.
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • A current National Police Check.
  • A valid NT OCHRE Card, or the ability to obtain one.
  • An acceptable vaccination status to work with vulnerable people.
  • Full Australian working rights.

What We Offer

At Sunrise, we understand that choosing remote nursing isn’t only about the role – where you live, the team around you and your experience in community matter too.

You’ll be supported with:

  • Competitive remuneration and salary packaging options.
  • Generous leave entitlements to support work-life balance.
  • Relocation assistance to help you make the move.
  • Support from experienced clinical and operational teams.
  • Ongoing professional development, mentoring and career progression opportunities.

  • The opportunity to work to the full scope of your practice and develop your remote health experience.
  • The chance to make a meaningful contribution to Aboriginal health while experiencing the culture, Country and landscapes of the Big Rivers region.

Three Communities – Which One Is Calling You?

Maybe it’s Ngukurr, with brand-new accommodation, a community swimming pool and the opportunity to experience life in one of our larger remote communities.

Or maybe it’s Wugularr, where weekends can mean waterfalls, walking, art and the social club – all while remaining within reach of Katherine.

Whichever community feels right for you, you’ll be joining a team where nursing and midwifery are built on relationships, respect and making a genuine difference.
