The Clinical Nurse is responsible for the delivery of direct nursing care at an advanced level while also providing team leadership of the Acute Ward and Aged Care. As a rural facility with a large catchment area, we deal with a variety of admission types. Support, supervision and direction to the Registered Nurse (RN) and other non-registered nursing personnel forms a key component of this role.
Mossman Hospital
Mossman Hospital consists of an ED, Acute Ward (funded 13 beds), Aged Care (8 residents), Medical Imaging (USS & Xray only, business hours and on call after hours), Community Health and satellite Dialysis, whilst also offering outpatient services for Mental Health, ATODS, Maternity & Child Health.
Your key accountabilities
After-hours facility management in consultation with the on-call manager.
Direct patient care of all aspects of the Acute Ward from admission to discharge.
Knowledge of treatment protocols and pathways for patients admitted with a range of medical conditions in the rural setting.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, patients, families and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks to achieve work unit outcomes.
Competence managing sick and deteriorating patients in association with the multi-disciplinary team, the ANUM and NUM.
Competence and confidence with clinical decision making and the ability to take the lead role with sick and deteriorating patients including clinical escalation when required.
Ability to effectively lead a team, providing leadership, supervision and feedback to team members.
Ability to communicate clearly and assertively in the advocacy for patients and other staff.
Knowledge of quality improvement processes and activities and ability to apply validated research to clinical practice.
Commitment to own continued professional development and an awareness of own self-care needs.
