The Indian Ocean Territories Administration (IOTA) is currently seeking a motivated, experienced, and suitably qualified Social Worker to join our team as a Community Social Worker within the Indian Ocean Territories Health Service (IOTHS) based on Christmas Island.

This is a unique opportunity to deliver high-quality, person-centred social work services within a multidisciplinary health team while supporting the wellbeing of the communities of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.

About the Role

The key responsibilities of the Community Social Worker position include:

  • Delivering a range of evidenced-based clinical practise including individual and group interventions, counselling, case management, assessments and care plans.
  • Working with a sound understanding of the World Health Organization’s Social Model of Health and the Social Determinants of Health to support a holistic, person-centred approach to care.
  • Liaising and negotiating with team members and community-based service agencies in regards to the provision of appropriate services.
  • Participating in staff and community education and health promotion.
  • Participating in the multidisciplinary team to contribute to the assessment, treatment and discharge planning for clients within the Indian Ocean Territories.

The role also includes providing professional support and mentoring to the Community Services Officer based on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Semi-regular travel to the Cocos (Keeling) Islands is required to deliver outreach services and counselling, strengthen local service delivery, and foster collaborative relationships with community stakeholders.

About You

To be considered, applicants must possess:

  • Relevant qualification in Social Work and eligibility for, or current, full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Valid Western Australian Working with Children Check
  • Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain a Baseline Security Clearance
  • Current valid driver’s licence

The successful applicant will also be required to complete a pre-employment medical assessment and successfully complete a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
