The Indian Ocean Territories Administration (IOTA) is currently seeking a motivated, professional and suitably qualified individual to join our team as a Senior Registered Nurse Level 1, with a midwifery and early childhood development focus, within the Indian Ocean Territories Health Service (IOTHS) based on Christmas Island.
The IOTHS delivers a primary and acute health care service in two of Australia’s most remote and most spectacular settings – Christmas Island (CI) and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands (CKI). The IOTHS includes a 24-hour eight bed hospital and primary care facility on CI and clinics on Home and West Islands in the CKI. The IOTHS is committed to “Working with our communities to keep us healthy for the whole of our lives”.

About the Role
The key responsibilities of the Senior Registered Nurse – Midwife/CHN position are to:
• Deliver direct, high quality and comprehensive nursing care and individual case management;
• Manage complex nursing cases, including the management of emergency presentations;
• Apply advanced clinical nursing / midwifery expertise, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation, to deliver a high standard of consumer / person centred care within a child and family health framework;
• Be actively involved in design, implementation and management of health promotion activities and provide health education and early intervention support;
• Provide Midwifery Nursing services in a Shared Cared model to the women and young families of Christmas Island; and
• To act as a professional role model, resource and support for colleagues.
About You
To be considered, applicants must possess:
• A current registration as a Registered Nurse and Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA);
• A Post Graduate Certificate (or higher) in Child and Adolescent Health Nursing;
• Recent demonstrable nursing experience in a rural and remote setting including in the speciality area of midwifery;
• A current ‘C’ class Driving Licence;
• A valid Working with Children Check;
• Valid Australian work-rights; and
• Ability to communicate in community languages, such as Chinese or Malay (desirable).

• Base salary of $110,422 per annum plus shift penalties; plus
• District allowance, starting from $472.37 per fortnight, plus
