An exciting opportunity is available for a skilled and motivated Primary Health Care Nurse to join the East Arnhem Population and Primary Health Care (PPHC) teams, located on Groote Eylandt.

 

In this role, you will deliver high-quality, culturally safe primary health care services while applying specialist nursing knowledge to support Aboriginal health outcomes. You will contribute to system improvement, risk management, and the effective use of clinical information systems, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and community stakeholders to support holistic, person-centred care across the Groote Eylandt, which includes three main communities and multiple homelands/outstations.

This position requires travel within the region, including by 4WD and light aircraft. Applicants must hold, or be eligible to obtain, an NT manual driver’s licence.

About You

You are a committed and adaptable nursing professional with a passion for primary health care and working alongside Aboriginal communities. To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (or eligibility for registration)
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in Primary Health Care or a related field
  • Strong clinical decision-making, problem-solving, and risk management skills
  • Knowledge of system improvement, quality, and safety frameworks
  • Experience using clinical information systems in a remote or complex health setting
  • A well-developed understanding of the social and cultural factors influencing health care delivery in Aboriginal communities
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Housing for this position is based in the beautiful seaside town of Alyangula, Groote Eylandt which is situated roughly 50 kilometres from the Northern Territory mainland in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The Groote Eylandt Archipelago consists of 3 main communities and multiple homelands/outstations, with a predominately Aboriginal population of roughly 2,800 people.
